Executive Director (volunteer) - Sept 23 2025

WESNO is seeking a volunteer Executive Director to provide strategic leadership and guide the organization into its next stage of development. The Executive Director will oversee a team of five volunteers, ensure effective coordination of WESNO’s activities, and strengthen partnerships within Ottawa’s sustainability community.

 

This role is best suited for a collaborative and visionary leader with a strong background in environmental sustainability and a well-established professional network in the Ottawa region.

 

Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per week

 

Term of Appointment: Minimum two-year commitment, with the option for renewal.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for WESNO.

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of five volunteers.

  • Oversee the planning and delivery of WESNO events (typically 1 in-person and/or virtual per quarter), and initiatives 

  • Organize and lead monthly team meetings

  • Act as a primary representative and ambassador for WESNO in the community.

  • Strengthen and expand partnerships with organizations, institutions, and professionals in Ottawa’s environmental sustainability sector.

  • Support internal communications and organizational development.

Qualifications

  • Established professional network within Ottawa’s environmental sustainability community.

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, team management, and/or project coordination.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to think strategically and guide WESNO into its next phase of growth.

  • Commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, reconciliation, and sustainability.
