Executive Director (volunteer) - Sept 23 2025
WESNO is seeking a volunteer Executive Director to provide strategic leadership and guide the organization into its next stage of development. The Executive Director will oversee a team of five volunteers, ensure effective coordination of WESNO’s activities, and strengthen partnerships within Ottawa’s sustainability community.
This role is best suited for a collaborative and visionary leader with a strong background in environmental sustainability and a well-established professional network in the Ottawa region.
Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per week
Term of Appointment: Minimum two-year commitment, with the option for renewal.

Start Date: As soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for WESNO.

Lead, mentor, and support a team of five volunteers.

Oversee the planning and delivery of WESNO events (typically 1 in-person and/or virtual per quarter), and initiatives

Organize and lead monthly team meetings

Act as a primary representative and ambassador for WESNO in the community.

Strengthen and expand partnerships with organizations, institutions, and professionals in Ottawa’s environmental sustainability sector.

Support internal communications and organizational development.

Qualifications

Established professional network within Ottawa’s environmental sustainability community.

Demonstrated experience in leadership, team management, and/or project coordination.

Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to think strategically and guide WESNO into its next phase of growth.

Commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, reconciliation, and sustainability.
